The Pearls of French Polynesia & the Society Islands Cruise

A Small Ship Cruise to Bora Bora and the Society Islands

French Polynesia is one of those rare destinations where the reality is more beautiful than the photographs — turquoise lagoons, volcanic peaks and islands edged by white sand and coral reef. This 7-night small ship cruise aboard Panorama II explores the heart of the Society Islands, sailing to Moorea, Raiatea, Taha’a, Bora Bora and Huahine at a pace that feels well suited to the spirit of the islands. The 7-night itinerary covers those core Society Islands ports from and back to Papeete.

A Classic Society Islands Journey

Travelling with a maximum of 49 guests, Panorama II offers a more relaxed way to explore French Polynesia, combining time in famous lagoons with calls at quieter islands full of character. Each stop brings something different, from the mountain scenery of Moorea to the cultural heritage of Huahine and the unmistakable beauty of Bora Bora, where Mount Otemanu rises above one of the South Pacific’s most celebrated lagoons.

A Complete French Polynesia Holiday

Your holiday includes two nights at Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts before embarkation, giving you time to settle into island life from the moment you arrive in Papeete, and one night after the cruise before your flight home. Together, it creates a well-paced French Polynesia holiday with ten nights in total, arriving relaxed and leaving reluctantly.

Best time to visit French Polynesia

WeatherA Year-Round Destination
French Polynesia enjoys a warm tropical climate throughout the year, and whatever month you travel, you will find warm seas, sunshine and the beauty of the islands. That said, the two seasons do have a different character and it is worth knowing what to expect.

May to October — Cooler and Drier
This is the most popular time to visit. The southeast trade winds keep conditions pleasant, with temperatures around 26–28°C and lower humidity. Skies are reliably clear — ideal for days at sea, snorkelling and exploring ashore.

November to April — Warm and Lush
The warmer season brings temperatures between 25°C and 30°C, along with greener landscapes and a beautifully warm ocean. Rainfall tends to arrive as short tropical showers rather than prolonged grey days, and the islands remain beautiful and rewarding throughout.

Sailing between the islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine and Raiatea, she provides a comfortable base for exploring lagoons, anchorages and coastal scenery in a way that feels closely connected to the destination.

Your Hotel: Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts

Your Gateway to French Polynesia
Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts sits on the shores of Lafayette Beach, just ten minutes from the centre of Papeete, looking out over the historic waters of Matavai Bay — the same bay that greeted Captain Cook and the crew of the Bounty. It’s a genuinely evocative setting, and a far more fitting introduction to French Polynesia than a functional airport hotel.
For guests arriving after a long-haul flight, the resort offers something valuable: space, calm, and an atmosphere that already feels unmistakably Polynesian before the cruise has even begun.

Stylish Comfort in a Tropical Setting
Rooms and suites are airy and well-appointed, with a relaxed elegance that suits both the start and end of a long journey. The overall atmosphere is unhurried and welcoming — exactly what you want when you’re crossing time zones. Comfortable interiors and a gentle resort feel make it a natural place to rest, recharge, and settle in.

Dining, Spa & Bay Views
The Hiti Mahana Restaurant looks out over the historic waters of Matavai Bay — a beautiful spot for dinner on your first or last evening. The Tāvai Spa and swimming pool add to the sense of a proper resort stay, while the Bay Bar is an easy place to watch the sun go down over the water. Whether you are just arriving in French Polynesia or savouring your final evening, Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts makes it a moment worth remembering.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the flight from the UK to Tahiti?

Flights from the UK to Papeete take 20 to 24 hours with a stopover in Paris, Los Angeles or San Francisco. Your outbound flight typically arrives in Tahiti in the early hours of the following day, which is why your package includes a hotel on arrival before you board the ship. We confirm your flight details at the time of booking.

Do I need an ESTA to travel to French Polynesia from the UK?

If your flights route via the United States — with stopovers in Los Angeles or San Francisco — you will need a valid ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) before you travel. An ESTA costs $40, is applied for online through the official US government website, and is valid for two years once approved. If your flights route via Paris instead, no ESTA is required.

Do I need a visa to visit French Polynesia?

British passport holders do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism. Passport and entry requirements can change, so we recommend checking the latest official advice before travel.

What is the best time of year to cruise French Polynesia?

The dry season from May to October is generally considered the best time to visit. Temperatures are warm, around 27 to 30°C, humidity is lower, and trade winds keep conditions comfortable both on land and at sea. December to April is warmer and wetter, with a higher chance of heavy rain and some cyclone risk, though the Society Islands — Bora Bora, Moorea, Huahine and Raiatea — are at lower risk than the outer archipelagos. Panorama II operates year-round, and many guests find the shoulder months of May and October offer excellent conditions with fewer visitors.

What is included in the cruise fare?

Your cruise fare includes full-board accommodation aboard Panorama II — buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner daily — along with a welcome cocktail, a themed evening, a beach or deck BBQ weather permitting, and the Captain’s Dinner. Filter coffee, tea and water are complimentary throughout the day. Use of snorkelling equipment, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards is also included subject to availability. Wi-Fi, alcoholic and other beverages, shore excursions, and crew gratuities(we recommend €10 to €14 per passenger per day) — are charged separately.

What currency is used in French Polynesia?

The currency in French Polynesia is the CFP franc (XPF), which is fixed against the euro. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and larger shops, though cash is useful in local markets and on smaller islands.

Is this cruise suitable for older or less mobile travellers?

Panorama II is a small ship with stairs between decks and no passenger lift. Shore excursions often involve uneven ground, tender landings and light walking. That said, the pace of the itinerary is relaxed, the group is small at a maximum of 49 guests, and the crew are attentive throughout.

Is there a longer version of this French Polynesia cruise?

Yes. Our French Polynesia Extended Exploration cruise covers the same Society Islands aboard Panorama II but over 10 or 11 nights, with two nights each in Bora Bora, Huahine and Raiatea rather than one night at each. The 11-night itinerary also adds an extra day in Tahiti with the excursion to Venus Point, the Faarumai Waterfalls and the Arahoho blowhole. If you would like more time on each island rather than a highlights itinerary, the extended cruise is worth considering.
